POETRY ENRICHES Imagination
Years ago, I read the following wonderful poem by Nan Fry to my tiny son, James:
At the center, a dark star
wrapped in white.
When you bite, listen
for the crunch of boots on snow.
Snow that has ripened. Over it
stretches the red starry sky.

Had he heard it, absorbed it? I didn't know. Then, one day, we went apple picking. From a low hanging bough, James plucked a large, red orb, took a bite, looked at the bright, perfectly white surface of the fruit he had unveiled, and gasped-- "snow!"
I learned then that the best poems bless our imaginations by suddenly re-enchanting everything, refreshing the way we see the details of our lives. It's a very real magic.

Poetry is meant to be spoken.
Children's Poetry Theater is a place to learn about the work of the laud-worthy and well known poets from yesterday and today. We also delight in putting original poems into the world, particularly poems about nature that educate without loosing their commitment to art, that celebrate flora and fauna without forgetting to say something useful--knowing that "metaphor is the heart of memory," and that children stand much to gain from reading, listening to, and reciting it.
Below you'll find links to a sampling of my work, morsels we hope you'll pass along and conjure up whenever the perfect time appears, whether that's when you're tucking your child into bed at night, sighing over Spring together, or biting into a just-barely-picked apple. Adult poets are invited to submit work--not to be published, but performed!

Together, let's make some magic!
Love,

Submissions
I'm always looking for new, original poems for the children to learn and recite, as well as poets to highlight. If you've written something you'd like us to consider, let's connect.
